Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Macau, a special region of China formerly under Portugal, Alfred Wong completed his high school education in Hong Kong in 1953. His pursuit of higher education took him to Canada at the University of Toronto, where he earned his Bachelor’s in Engineering Physics in 1958. His thirst for knowledge led him to further study in Physics, earning a Master’s degree and a PhD in Plasma Physics in 1962.
Academic and Entrepreneurial Endeavors
Alfred Wong is a seasoned physicist and distinguished professor emeritus at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he has had a rich teaching career spanning four decades. Beyond academia, Wong ventured into entrepreneurship. He is the founder, honorary chairman, and President of Alpha Ring International, Ltd., and Nonlinear Ion Dynamics, LLC. Despite facing a challenging incident in 2006 involving incorrect claims for payment from DARPA, Wong demonstrated resilience. He paid the penalty and earned the respect of his peers by managing the situation with integrity.
Recognition and Achievements
Wong’s innovative thinking has earned him recognition as an inventor, with over 30 patents worldwide. His expertise in Geo-engineering has garnered attention, as referenced in an article by The Economist. This multifaceted personality has remarkable achievements, including his recognition as an Alfred P Sloane Fellow from 1966 to 1968 and a Fellow of the American Physical Society. His research excellence was acknowledged with the AIP Research Excellence Prize in 1984.

Outside academia and business, Wong has a fondness for sports. He was the Junior Champion in Table Tennis in Canada in 1954 and had an affection for tennis. In addition to this, he is passionate about philanthropy, particularly focusing on world relief initiatives.
